Lyndsey Penegor and the Royals went on the road and picked up a big win over Annandale this past week in an important WCC West matchup.
ANNANDALE – It was an impressive performance on the road for the Watertown-Mayer girls basketball team. Looking to make it four wins in a row, the Royals did just that as they came out on top with an important 48-43 win over the Annandale Cardinals Jan. 27.
The first half was a big statement by W-M as they took a 30-21 lead into halftime. Despite being outscored in the second half, the Royals held on for the win as they moved to 10-7 on the season and 5-2 in the Wright County Conference West.
Mallory Czinano led the charge for the Royals with a game-high 14 points. Eleanor Rundell, Lyndsey Penegor, and Mercedes Burmeister each added eight points while Abby Otterness chipped in four points.

WATERTOWN – Looking to pull off an upset against one of the top teams in Class AA, the Royals had a chance to do just that as they played a strong first half in their matchup with New London-Spicer. In the second half, the Wildcats showed why they are one of the top-ranked teams in the state as they took control of the game to pick up an 83-48 win over W-M Tuesday night.
The Royals trailed by just 10 at the break but the second half was a different story. NL-S outscored W-M 40-25 over the final 18 minutes to remain perfect in WCC West play.
Czinano led the way for the Royals in the loss with a team-high 10 points. Madelynn Onell and Lyndsey Penegor each added nine points while Burmeister chipped in eight points.
