Mayer Lutheran 33, New Ulm Cathedral 6
MAYER – Coming into the postseason as the defending Class A state champions, the Crusaders kept their hopes alive of a title defense with an impressive 33-6 win over New Ulm Cathedral in the opening round of the Section 2A Tournament Tuesday night.
Grimsley had another big day running the ball for the Crusaders in the win. He had two more rushing touchdowns, both of which came in the first half to give Mayer Lutheran a 13-0 lead.
Mayer Lutheran also got the passing game going in the win as Hahn threw for a pair of touchdowns. Seidl and Mason Neitzel each added rushing touchdowns in the second half as Mayer Lutheran kept the season alive with an impressive win.
The Crusaders will take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the Section 2A semifinals Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Mayer. Mayer Lutheran defeated the Thunderbirds 32–6 in the season opener earlier this year. It’s also a rematch of the Section 2A title game from a season ago.
