Royals go 1-1 at Monticello Tournament

MONTICELLO – A total team performance was the key for the Royals in their matchup with Sauk Rapids-Rice. W-M got contributions from all over the lineup as they picked up a 63-48 win over the Storm Dec. 28.

The Royals built a double-digit lead at the half as they held Sauk Rapids-Rice to just 19 first-half points. W-M closed things down with an impressive second half as they snapped a three-game skid with the win.

The Royals had nine players score at least two or more points in the win. Mallory Czinano led the charge with 13 points while Eleanor Rundell was also in double figures with 12 points. Lyndsey Penegor and Abby Otterness each added eight points while Mercedes Burmeister chipped in seven points.
Proctor 57, W-M 47

MONTICELLO – Looking to string together wins, the Royals ran into a battle with the Proctor Rails. A slow start in the first half was too much to overcome as they fell short in a 57-47 loss in their final game of the Monticello Holiday Tournament Dec. 29.

W-M was held to just 10 first-half points in the loss as they struggled to get the offense going. Despite trailing by 23 to start the second half, the Royals battled back, outscoring the Rails 37-24 in the second half but the comeback attempt came up just short.

Czinano led the charge once again in the loss for the Royals with a team-high 18 points. Burmeister added eight points while Rundell finished with six points.
